Why the Left Kills

Harrison R. Kahrig

“If they are willing to kill children, don’t think they are above killing you.”

I said this three years ago, and it is all the more true now.

If the left is willing to murder the most innocent and defenseless among us, they will be more than willing to kill you. They will take everything you love and crush it if you keep them from what they want. It doesn’t matter how gentle or reasonable you are.

We have seen hundreds of posts and videos of people mocking the death of a righteous man who still believed in the power of good-faith discussion—mocking his now-widowed wife, rejoicing that his children will grow up without a father, and celebrating with posts that garnered hundreds of thousands of likes. I have even seen people I know personally, or have known, doing the same, spewing some of the vilest hatred you can conceive.

The question is: Why? Why is the left so bloodthirsty? The consensus appears to be that they are motivated primarily by political considerations.

I disagree.

The Left is a Religion

The left does not hate and kill others over politics. No one kills others over economic, domestic, or foreign policy disagreements. To understand the left, you must understand this first: politics do not exist in a vacuum. You don’t decide that the government must punish murderers without something deeper telling you that murder is wrong. Ultimately, your political views are downstream from your moral views, and going even further, your moral views are downstream from your religious views.

The left hate and kill over religion. All men have a god. It’s true whether you are a devout Christian or a staunch atheist. Every one of us has a god we worship. We are “professional idol makers.” Man idolizes everything around him, but ultimately, he idolizes himself. We see it happen in the opening chapters of Scripture:

“The serpent said to the woman, “You surely will not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” — Genesis 3:4-5

Thousands of years after the fall, the left still commits the same sin Adam and Eve did. They want to be God. So, in their pursuit of being like Him, they rebel against their Creator in every way. They assert that truth is relative, not static: telling women that to be truly free they must reject their design, pursue a career over a family, and sleep with as many men as possible; pushing same sex attraction; insisting it is acceptable to murder the unborn; claiming all white people are inherently racist; and declaring that gender is a social construct, going so far as to say it’s acceptable to reject your Creator’s design by mutilating your body.

When challenged on these issues even the slightest bit, they yelled, “shut up” and claimed, “it doesn’t affect you.” But the left still had a problem.

Their conscience.

The Issue of Conscience

It continued to condemn them. Despite their assertion that there is no God, or the assertion that if there is a god, he would be in favor of their beliefs, they couldn’t shake the fact that they knew this wasn’t true. Romans 1 tells us why:

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.” — Romans 1:18-19

Since their conscience condemned them, they shifted from claiming their beliefs don’t affect you to claiming you must affirm them in their sin. This shift was probably summed up best in the phrase “just bake the cake” after a Christian baker refused to make a cake for a same-sex marriage in the 2010s.

But now it goes beyond “baking the cake.” They demand you affirm and celebrate the murder of the young, that you use their preferred pronouns, and most importantly of all, that you shut up about Christ and His Word. Their conscience condemns them, and when you join in that condemnation, they will call you a “bigot” and a “fascist” until their hatred festers so deeply that they are not only willing to insult you or try to get you fired from your job—they will eventually convince themselves it is morally right to kill you.

Why? Because by disagreeing, even in the gentlest way possible, you are telling them their god is not real. When the Christian is told our God is not real, we have beautiful promises in Scripture to remind us that is not true. The left has no such promises. So, they will seek to silence any voice that reminds them of this.

And this is not simply a theory. We have already seen it happen with the death of Charlie Kirk.

The reality is they killed Charlie Kirk for this. He would go to the public square and debate their ideas and, worst of all, would win. The left could not beat him in a debate, and he constantly exposed their lies. Charlie Kirk was condemning them by simply explaining the truth. He wasn’t hateful in this, but it didn’t matter because in the end, he was denying the left’s god of self. Their only options were to admit he was right or kill him. We see which one they chose. They assumed that if they couldn’t defeat him in debate, they could defeat him by taking his life.

But taking his life did not defeat him.

Charlie didn’t win debate after debate with the left because he was inherently better than them. He won because he was standing on truth – truth that was given to him by God’s grace. Now Kirk has truly learned the meaning of “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” — 1 Corinthians 15:55

He is in the arms of his Savior, sharing in a victory that the left could never understand. The left did not defeat Charlie Kirk; they ushered him into the eternal victory Christ won on his behalf. The beauty and the promise are that all Christians will share in this victory.

So, what do we do with this knowledge?

A Call to Belief and Faithfulness

First, to the unbeliever: If you look around and see a world in dismay—if you look at the vile actions and utter hatred of the left and it doesn’t sit right with you, if you read of the victory Charlie Kirk had in part in this life and has in full in his death and want the same victory for yourself—then I beg you to believe the Gospel.

Understand that it isn’t enough to simply disagree with those who would murder their religious opponents. You must recognize that you have sinned against a righteous and holy God, the punishment for that sin is death, and the only possible hope to escape that death is Christ’s atoning death on the cross. Believe that Christ was both God and man, put to death on the cross to suffer the wrath you deserved to suffer, and rose from the grave to deliver you from it. Believe that Christ is Lord so deeply that you long to follow all His commandments and desire to honor Him with your life. Trust in all His promises and know that His ways are better than ours, and I promise—because God promises—that on the day of judgment you will not be put to shame but have eternal life.

To the believer: Understand that you are fighting a war right now, whether you like it or not. This is a war not of politics but of religion. It is as Paul said:

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” — Ephesians 6:12

It is no longer time for silence and timidity. It is time for boldness and action. I do not mean action like the left takes. They riot, loot, destroy, and murder. I mean a different kind of action. Pursue faithfulness to Scripture in all areas of your life. Get married, have as many children as possible. Husbands, love your wives. Wives, respect your husbands. Parents, teach your children to fear the Lord. Children, honor your fathers and mothers. Have daily worship time together. Read your Bibles. Attend a local church and serve her people. Sing songs! Pray to the Lord your God! Be bold to share the Gospel and take part in the ministry of reconciliation. Share in a joy that cannot be taken away, no matter what man does to you.

Do not shy away when people call you hateful, a racist, a bigot, or a fascist, but rejoice to be persecuted in the name of Christ. Know that they hate you because they hated Christ first (John 15:18-19). Do not fear those who hate you because God has not given us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). You have seen man do the worst they can do to Charlie; do not fear those who can kill the body—fear the One who can kill the soul (Matthew 10:28).

Brothers and sisters, do not be ashamed of the Gospel but speak it boldly to this evil and wicked generation. Whatever comes of it will come, but the promise is that His Word is not void, and we will be rewarded for our faithfulness.

Be strong, be faithful, contend for the faith, decry all false gods.
